A LA MODE 17TH SEPT

Wow. Friday night's show was a whirlwind of incredible and unique designs for both men and women. The show opened with sculpted wonders from Dubai's Amato Couture (must mention his delightful and refreshing PR assistant Katie, such a lovely lady and very good at what at she does!). Furne incporporated a lot of hand crafted wood into his collection and I totally fell for his work! Stunning. The show continued with designers including Jonathan Liang, Nikolo Bertok, KHM Couture, Z Mode, Berit New York and Tom Lipop (of Project Catwalk...I met some of my favourite contestants and discovered that a fashion assistant I met on a Swarovski shoot was dating one of them, Ross Hancock! CRAZY small world :O )

Cherry Pie

I've been noticing a bit of a cherry print comeback lately and this is something I can definitely get behind! I used to have a gorgeous white cherry print top when I was about....oooh....15? I loved it and haven't really been diggin prints in recent years but this is really bringing back some good memories. So while I was in Spitalfields market yesterday I came across this little gem!



At £15, this dress was a bargain and supports independent designers, so everyones happy!

I thought given my pretty monochromatic wardrobe it might be wise to figure out how to wear patterns again since I may have lost the knack. So here are a couple of ways I can dress this dress up or down:




THE ROCK CHICK DAY LOOK: Whack on a pair of Doc martens and a Biker and this dress will take on an edgy day look with ease. A slick of red lippy will add some sophisticated Gwen Stefani about the ensemble and the knee high tights will keep it looking young and not too 80's washed up pop star. (My favourite choice) I might also add a red bandana if the whole look seems like it needs a bit more red to pull it together.



EVENING CHIC: A mongolian fluffy jacket and a pair of opaque tights to keep me warm in the winter months are the perfect accompaniment for dinner out. A pair of cherry red shoes will keep the outfit looking put together and perhaps a couple of layered chains if I'm feeling fancy.


The cherry print is a cool look to work over autumn and it will work for both day and evening. Only thing is, you have to avoid adding too many otehr colours or it becomes a bit kids dressing up box! If anyone sees any more Cherry Print ensemble ideas, shoot them my way :)

Don't Look Back In Anger

I've been diggin' nostalgia for years, it was the theme to my college art and design final project and also my BA Hons dissertation. For this reason I've decided to start a nostalgic blog post for every season showing which historic trends are in.

The surge in popularity of retro chic shows such as Mad Man combined with the simplistic functionality route that fashion is currently redirecting to seem to have given rise to a nostalgic 1950's theme in today's trends. Proof? Here are my top 3 nostaligc trends:

1. My favourite trend and THE hottest jacket for AW10/11, the shearling, screams of Amelia Earhart (in a very post-war washing powder ad plummy British Accent). I love the story and mystery surrounding Amelia and this jacket completely evokes the same air of suspense and cold midnight air associated with her memory.




2. The Betty Paige fringe is back. It's not the coolest look ever, and it takes a certain personality (and face shape) to pull it off, but when something's in, suddenly it'll develop a renewed coolness and everyone will be trying it.

3. 50's dresses and the calf length cut. This is something I'm rather sceptical about given my stunted height and suspicion of dainty shoes. I'll be giving the cinched waist and wide skirt a go for sure, but I do wonder whether petite girls can pull it off as well as our taller longer legged counterparts. As for the shoes, noone's going to let me get away with a big Sandra Dee dress and Doc Martens are they......?
